COUNSELLING in Barnet, North London

Welcome to RM Therapy

Counselling and therapy for individuals in a safe, comfortable and private setting

Maybe you are struggling with issues related to trauma, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, work stress or major life changes. Whatever issues you face, sometimes we all need extra support in handling the challenges that life throws at us.

Therapy can help in discovering who you are. By understanding how the past can shape the present, we can work towards building deeper connections, focusing on what is affecting you and your world. Each person is unique, and by using a blend of therapeutic modalities, you can explore what works best for you to support your wellbeing and scope for greater self-discovery and personal growth.

About Me

I’m Robert McCluskey, a qualified integrative counsellor and member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I draw upon various therapeutic modalities and tailor our sessions specifically to your needs, whether seeking short or long-term support. I studied at CPPD, London, gaining an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions do I need?

Every person is unique with a specific set of personal circumstances, so it boils down to the individual. I normally recommend that clients have a minimum of six to twelve sessions, usually once a week, for the therapy to be effective. We will review regularly to check how you are getting on with the sessions.

Will counselling help?

Finding the right therapist or counsellor and feeling that you are both a 'good fit' is key. The client-therapist relationship is vital in creating a trusting environment.

What should I expect while undergoing therapy?

Undergoing therapy is different for everyone. Being able to be open and fully express yourself without judgment is part of the process – the therapy space is a safe place for self-reflection and self-discovery. It's quite normal to feel nervous about your first therapy session. However, as you acclimatise to the therapeutic process, you will develop more self-confidence and self-awareness.

Do you offer online counselling?

Yes, I do. Online counselling is a very effective and convenient way of accessing therapy. I work with clients over the secure video platform Zoom and email you a link to access your online therapy session.

How does online counselling work

Just click on the link to give you access to our private counselling session. I usually ask clients to find a quiet, peaceful space where they can feel comfortable talking and not be disturbed or distracted by anything or anyone. It's important to be able to focus within an environment that fosters self-reflection. Ideally, we would meet same date and time weekly.

Are our counselling sessions confidential?

Confidentiality in counselling creates a space where the client can explore sensitive subjects in the knowledge that the counsellor will not repeat or misuse the information discussed outside of the counselling room. Maintaining confidentiality is an ethical responsibility; however, there are circumstances where a counsellor may need to break confidentiality, either because of a legal obligation or an individual or organisational policy requirement. I will discuss the circumstances under which confidentiality may be broken with you during our first session.

How it Works

• I will respond and arrange a convenient time for an informal FREE 20-minute call or Zoom consultation.

• I will ask you about what brings you to counselling and what your goals might be, as well as talk you through the therapeutic process. It's a great opportunity for you to raise any concerns that you may have, and feel free to ask me questions.

• If I can help you and you want to proceed, we can book your first session on an agreed day and time. If necessary, I can signpost you to a more appropriate professional if I feel I am not the right counsellor for you.

• All counselling sessions are carried out online via the secure platform Zoom, ideally we would meet same date and time weekly. You will be emailed a link to your online therapy room the week before your appointment. You just click on the link to access your session – and the link stays the same for each weekly session. Before your first session, you will be emailed an agreement form to fill out.
